Four Tips for Packing & Moving House
Sorry I've been so quiet! I promise I've been working on lots of upcoming Xmas content so keep your eyes peeled!
For now, let talk about moving! Moving is a super exciting time and always kick starts a new change in your life both physically and metaphorically. You are able to redesign a whole new space and get rid of things you don’t need anymore. But there is nothing worse than packing. Whether you’re packing for a holiday, packing your lunch or packing up your life, it’s all time consuming and really frustrating. I find it’s important to have a game plan when packing ANYTHING!
Finding the essentials
First off you will need a lot of boxes – every time I move it’s hard to scrounge up enough boxes to fit all of my stuff. There are some places around that will let you hire them for super cheap rather than asking your local shopkeeper if you could steal some from their recycling. You can hire boxes in all shapes and sizes which can come in handy for bulky frames. Make sure to tape the bottoms BEFORE you start to pack – don’t laugh, I’ve made that mistake a few times.
Packaging is also essential. I’ve broken one of my favourite candles before because I didn’t wrap it in newspaper. Make sure that all of your valuables are secure and packaged perfectly. The best way to guarantee no breaks is to roll items in newspaper or get some bubble wrap. This also applies to prints and frames – remember to ensure they are secure and covered.
Cull, cull, cull!
Culling is a must – and kind of therapeutic. Getting rid of small knickknacks and old clothes is a great way to save space and help you start fresh in your new place. This is such a good time to go through the endless drawers full of random things that you have hoarded. Clearing out old things definitely does help clear your mind. Also, finding local charity’s to donate your old clothes and accessories to is a great way to give back to people in need.
The hot movers
Getting help to move the big bulky items is the best way to ensure that things go smoothly. It’s important to make sure you are moving these things the right way so you don’t get hurt and neither does the furniture. Using a moving service like Hire A Mover can really help take the stress out of moving the big things and it make sure everything stays together while you move.
The fun part
New room, new you am I right? The best part of moving is designing an entirely new space. This is the time when Pinterest becomes your best friend. Looking at inspiration and bringing your vision to life is super exhilarating. Also, finding dupes and bargains at your local Kmart is great for your bank account. Have fun with your design and make it work for you.
